Residence Made It's Mark on September!

Make Your Mark is a slogan new to Residence this year.  The philosophy behind it is to show students that they can be anyone they want to be in university and in Residence.  Majority of Residence students come from far away cities, provinces and other countries, and, with that, comes the ability to explore themselves and be who they really want to be-- themselves.

Residence gives students the opportunity to make new friends and get involved with the community.  We do this by offering various Residence committees and programming many fun events throughout the year, where students can make their mark.  However, it's not only Residence students who made their mark.  The Residence Life team, a group of individuals dedicated to making a difference, certainly made their mark this month.  Whether they programmed a fun house event, made house meetings fun, or even got waxed to raise money for the Terry Fox Run, the Residence Life team has also made their mark on September.

During Orientation week, Residence left a huge mark on the The Biggest Event Ever, Monte Carlo Night, and Residence Mini Olympics.  For just having moved in that day, students did a great job at The Biggest Event Ever.  The fun didn't stop there, nor did it stop at Monte Carlo Night, a semi formal night of poker, roulette, bingo, black jack, horse racing, cotton candy and much more, plus lots of awesome prizes.  On the last day of Orientation week, Residence really made their mark with Mini Olympics, a series of challenges where houses would compete against one another.  From face paint to capes and matching shirts to flags, every house showed their spirit in some way.

Since then, Residence has participated in the Terry Fox run, where we doubled our goal of $1 per student living in Residence, making it the most we've ever raised for Terry Fox.  It's intense how much money a house can raise with their HP and RA volunteer to dye their hair, wax their chest and legs, and not speak for a day.  Geraldton house definitely made a mark there.

To finish off September, houses competed against one another at Fall Fest, an event full of sports, carnivals activities, food and lots more fun.  Whether students were playing road hockey, jumping in the bouncy castle, or writing how awesome their house is with chalk on the road, they definitely left a mark on September.  With the mark they've left, it's hard to believe that Residence students moved in just last month.

Check out the photos below to see if we caught you making your mark.
